NEW SONG POSTED

We posted a new song up on our myspace. Its off of our upcoming record entitled “the death of day, the great release…” scheduled to be released in early 2009. Check it out, we hope you like it.

We’ll be hitting the road again in december, so if you live in the southeast come hang out with us! We’ll be doing a couple of days with our good friends, Wintson Audio. Speaking of which, they just posted some new tracks from their full length so check that out too!

The last time I freaked out…

I’m glad we all had that nice emotional outpouring about bands we wished we liked more. I feel like we’ve really connected now. So to take it one step further, as suggested by MD, what are some bands or artists that you love (or even like a little bit) that you are embarrassed to enjoy?

For me, this one is a little bit tougher. I think I can rationalize most of my music choices to the point where I do not feel ashamed of them. For example, I think a few of my “cool friends” might look down upon the fact that I love the band Guster. But I have no qualms in telling you this because they really are THAT good. Check out “Lost And Gone Forever” and you will not be sorry.

But someone I am truly embarrassed to say I like… well, I can’t speak for her entire catalog, but I can’t get enough of that Mile Cyrus song “See You Again”. And Lord should I know. I heard it all the time at work over the summer and never got tired of it. In general there are more than a couple of pop songs that I hear on the radio and think are really good. That new David Archuleta song “Crush” is so amazingly catchy I can’t help but give props to whoever wrote it. I actually just bought that one for my wife on iTunes. But if you don’t tell her I secretly enjoy it for myself I won’t either.

So there you have it. I am not immune to the Pop Single trappings. The hook me in, at least for a while. And I can always appreciate a good streamlined melody and song structure.

So what about you guys? We’ve already established that there is no judging here, so feel free to open up. You just might find that you are not alone.

Totally unrelated to the rest of this post: we are putting up a couple tracks from the new record on our myspace on Monday. Please check them out, tell us what you think. You’ll also get to see the cover art for the record, which I am personally over the moon about. It looks great. Daniel Bressette designed the art, and Jon Cole is putting it all together. They are superhuman. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Space Camp

Drove to Birmingham, AL yesterday evening for a show at Matthew’s Bar and Grill. We weren’t really sure what to expect with this show, but it was a pleasant surprise. It was part of a monthly series that will be going on for the next year. Each show is a fundraiser for a music festival called Space Camp that’s going to be taking place in September 2009. Stewart, the organizer, had this pretty cool idea to have a bunch of the bands playing the festival do some fundraiser shows to raise money and, more importantly, the profile of the festival. Check out Space Camp’s myspace here: myspace.com/spacecampfestival.

We’re very grateful for the people who drove from Anniston to see us last night. Hearing things like that really just makes a night for us. We promise you next time we’re there we’ll play a longer set with better sound. We’ll be back in Birmingham December 7th with O’Brother, so we’ve got a date on the books to make it up to those that were there to see us.

In other news we have joined the ranks of Facebook and Twitter recently. If you like these social media tools you can easily find us on them (just search for winston audio on facebook and you can see our twitter page at twitter.com/winstonaudio). I’ve been thinking a lot about the changing face of communication and just how excited I am to be in a band during this time. We have the ability to get to know so many more people and to disseminate information and music to them so much faster now. In the past we haven’t been very good at being in touch with people, but we’re turning over a new leaf. That’s what this blog and this Favorite Gentlemen community is all about: we want to get to know you, and we want you to know who we are as well, not just what we do (although we really want you to know about what we do!).

Speaking of social media and blogging, one of my best friends has put together a community of bloggers who are committed to helping expose under-appreciated blogs on the web. He’s really helped me see how we communicate as a band in a different light. Show him some love over at www.chuckwestbrook.com.

This entry’s just been one entire plug hasn’t it? Hey, there are a lot of cool things going on in this world. You can’t blame me for wanting you to know about them. Just stay away from Taco Bell’s triple steak burrito. It’s totally not worth the $4. You’re better off with a cheesy bean and rice burrito or a spicy chicken burrito, two of my personal favorites.

RAGC and a question posed

Last night a few of us Winston Audio members backed Andy up at the the Right Away, Great Captain! record release show. It was a great time. So many people I love were there hanging out, having a good time, enjoying each others’ company. It really was quite the contrast to how I felt about the Atlanta music scene a year ago. It feels like we’re part of something. Not that we’re inside of some circle we were previously outside of; more like the circle broke open. I feel blessed to be a part of this community, and happy that there is a community to be a part of in Atlanta.

I had a conversation last night with Andrew Averso about his love for Guns ‘n’ Roses’ Appetite For Destruction record. I’ll admit I’ve never listened the entire album, but I’ve never had any desire whatsoever to try. I just can’t stand Axl Rose’s voice. All he makes me want to do is listen to Robert Plant instead. However, after hearing the love Averso has for AFD, I’m willing to give it a serious shot.

That whole thing got me thinking though. Are there records or bands that any of you just aren’t into that you, for whatever reason, feel like you should be? I’m interested to hear your responses.

Daniel
